GRIZEDALE FOREST (30 mins)
With mountain bike trails (bikes can be hired), walking trails, horse riding and Go Ape, there is no shortage of things to do in Grizedale.


MUNCASTER CASTLE (35 mins)
Dominating the Lake District coast, where the mountains tumble into the sea and bursting with treasures and tales, haunted Muncaster oozes history from every rough stone which fashion the castle walls. John Ruskin described the stunning views of England’s highest mountain as “Heaven’s Gate”
‘LA’AL RATTY’ (40 mins)
Starting in Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the Lake District National Park, the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway takes you on a steam train journey across the estuary, through the hills to the final destination Dalegarth for Boot station.


CONISTON WATER (20 mins)
Coniston Boating Centre hires a variety of boats, choose from motor boats, rowing boats, kayaks or paddle boards. Or just take a picnic and find a peaceful spot by the lakeside.
ULVERSTON (20 mins)
Festival-happy Ulverston knows how to celebrate events. The party capital of Furness hosts a series of specialist events throughout the year, where visitors also get the chance to sample the town’s wonderful collection of cosy pubs, traditional markets and cultural hotspots. Add in the colourfully rendered houses, cobbled streets and inviting side alleys and there’s enough of interest to keep you smiling for days.n


LEAPING SALMON (35 mins)
Force Falls near Sizergh / Sedgwick on the River Kent at map reference SD509865 is an excellent spot to see leaping salmon. Best after heavy rainfall. River Kent fish tend to be smaller than average but remarkable to watch them all the same.
LOW SIZERGH BARN (35 mins)
Award winning farm shop, cafe and working farm. The farm shop is well stocked with local produce. The menu in the cafe is inspired by the farm and the windows in the cafe look down on the milking parlour!


CONISTON (20 mins)
Coniston boasts a variety of cafes, pubs and restaurants. Many famous walks start from here too. The drive from Broughton to Coniston is very scenic, take the route through Broughton and over the fells on the way there and the route back along the lake.
ROANHEAD BEACH (20 mins)
Roanhead is a wide sandy beach with views across the Duddon Estuary towards the Lakeland fells. Popular with locals and visitors, particularly during the warmer summer months, it’s a striking place to soak up the sun or enjoy beach activities with the family. There’s a beach hut for drinks and refreshments during busier times, and a pay and display car park which leads down to the sand via a beautiful boardwalk.


SANDSCALE HAWS (20 mins)
With its magnificent sand dunes, abundance of wildlife and beautiful coastal views, Sandscale Haws is a must-visit on the Furness peninsula. It’s a National Nature Reserve, known for its fascinating fauna, flora and animals like calling wading birds in winter and natterjack toads in the spring.
